First-hand accounts of life in the early 20th century from islanders born over 100 years ago. A series of recorded interviews with Islanders talking about their working lives and childhood in the early part of the twentieth century. All were in their seventies or eighties at the time of recording and some of them are speaking of Island life over 100 years ago. Between them they tell of the day to day running of a village mill, launching a lifeboat with the aid of horses and even the social standing of a telephone engineer in the 1930s. Nine Islanders recount the intimate details of everyday life that usually go unrecorded in history books, a way of life that no one will live again. |
